Olivia Buckland on moderation, keeping busy and enjoying that glass of wine
by Amelia Glean
We chatted to the former Love Island contestant, Olivia Buckland to find out why she chose to front the campaign for Slim Wine, a zero carb, zero sugar wine brand. We also found out how she stays in shape, and what her favourite naughty sweet treat is.
Why zero sugar/zero carbs wine?
‘I have quite a busy lifestyle, which means I do not always eat as well as I should, but in the run up to the wedding I’m trying to be more balanced. If there’s something I can enjoy and not feel guilty about, then that’s amazing. I love wine, so opting for a zero sugar and zero carbs option means I can still enjoy a glass in the evenings or with the girls (it also means maybe I don’t have to give up things like pizza. Mmmm)!’
Do you think it’s something that could take off as a bit of a trend?
‘100%! I think at the moment sugar content is a massive thing for people and everyone is conscious about having too much sugar in their drinks. But if you really enjoy something, you shouldn’t feel guilty for treating yourself as long as it’s in moderation, and because Slim Wine is zero sugar, zero carbs you can enjoy a glass without worrying – and I think that could definitely kick off as a trend!’
You’re in such great shape, what’s your secret?
‘You know what, I don’t really have a secret! I’m always on the go and have such a busy lifestyle and I think that’s what keeps me in shape. To be honest, I don’t really go to the gym that regularly. Alex usually has to drag me there! My main tip is to just enjoy things in moderation. If I want a pizza, then I’ll have a pizza, if I want a glass of wine, then I’ll have a glass of wine. Obviously it helps that Slim Wine is zero sugar and zero carbs!’
You’re marrying Alex in September, what are you most looking forward to about the day?
‘I can’t wait to have all eyes on me when I walk down the aisle. I’ve been planning the dress, the hair and the makeup for so long that I’m just so excited to walk down the aisle and meet Alex at the end of it.’
What do you eat in a day/what’s your typical food routine?
‘My food routine is almost non-existent! I eat what I want, when I want. When I’m really busy it can be difficult to fit regimented meals in throughout the day, but I never restrict myself if I really fancy something. That’s another reason why I love Slim Wine, because I don’t need to feel guilty about treating myself to a glass or two after a busy day.’
Do you use the gym? If so, do you and Alex ever train together?
‘I only ever train with Alex because I’ll never make it to the gym on my own. Once I’m in the gym and getting into a workout I do really enjoy it, and training with Alex really helps to keep me on track. He’s always the one dragging me out of bed to go.’
What’s one thing you could tell Celebrity Secrets that not many people know about you?
‘I danced for ten to twelve years, doing ballet, pointe, jazz, tap and hip hop when I was younger. I gave up dance for horse riding which I absolutely loved. I used to do cross country and show jumping as I’m a bit of a speed demon, but it’s difficult keep hobbies up once you’re working full time!’
Are you a morning person or not?
‘I’m not a morning person at all. I don’t even think I’m a night person, I think I’m just a nap person! Alex always says I’m so moody in the mornings, but I haven’t had a day off in a while so it’s struggle getting up early in the morning.’
What’s your favourite…
- Sweet treat? Definitely warm Dominos cookies.
- Film? One of my favourite films is Equaliser. I love an action or gory horror film.
- Band? I don’t really listen to bands but my favourite DJ is Joseph Capriati.
- Beauty product? It’s got to be fake tan!
- Meal? It’s got to be pizza.
- Guilty pleasure? A glass of wine, but I don’t feel guilty about it!
